Gniezno, as a place of worship of the first Patron of Poland, although Czech by origin, has an uninterrupted tradition for almost 1000 years. The first act of worship shown to the Martyr by Prince Boleslaw the Brave and all Christian Poland at that time should be considered the purchase of the body of Bishop Adalbert, with great reverence transporting them to Gniezno and placing them in the capital's church. In March 1000, Emperor Otto III made a pilgrimage to the tomb of St. Adalbert in Gniezno. Then - during the meeting with Boleslaw the Brave - the Gniezno metropolis with its subordinate dioceses in Krakow, Kolobrzeg and Wroclaw was solemnly proclaimed.
